Programs & Events


D.A.R.E. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. Det. Sgt. Aaron Perkins and Ptl. Thomas Smith are the D.A.R.E. Officers for Hackettstown PD.

Child Passenger Safety - The CPS Program is designed to educate parents on the proper installation of child passenger seats, as well as how children should be secured and protected in a motor vehicle while travelling. Ptl. Thomas Smith and Det. Sgt. 
Aaron Perkins are the CPS-Certified Officers for Hackettstown PD. To schedule an appointment to have your child seat installed or inspected, please contact our office at 908-852-3302. Please bring your car seat, the car seat manual and vehicle owners' manual where the seat will be installed, the child who will be riding in the seat (whenever possible), and any parent/guardian who will be installing the seat in the future. Child I.D. Program - The Hackettstown Police Detective Bureau coordinates the Child I.D. Program. This program is designed to provide children with identification cards in the event they become lost or separated from their parents or guardians.

Project Medicine Drop Box -  The drop box is located at the Hackettstown Police Department 215 West Stiger St Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Residents may visit the Hackettstown Police Department at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to dispose of their unused or excess medications anonymously and with no questions asked. Liquids and needles WILL NOT be accepted. More information about Project Medicine Drop, including the full list of Project Medicine Drop locations, can be found at www.NJConsumerAffairs.gov/meddrop.

School Resource Program - This program designates officers who are responsible for visiting Hackettstown Schools on a daily basis. Their presence provides security and a direct point of contact with the police department to all students, faculty, and school staff.
Sgt. Darren Tynan is the designated S.R.O. (School Resource Officer) for H.P.D.

Community Day -The Hackettstown Police Department sponsors an annual "Community Day" event which hosts an array of emergency agencies, military, corporate, non-profit, health, and many other organizations who come together to educate the community about their functions and services they provide. Games, music, and other forms of entertainment are some of the featured attractions at this event. Saturday, October 2, 2021.

National Night Out - The Hackettstown Police Department participates in the National Night Out event, which is held on the first Tuesday in August. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Tuesday, August 3, 2021.

Halloween Parade- The Hackettstown Police Department co-sponsors the annual parade with Mars Wrigley, the Hackettstown Business Improvement District and Atlantic Health System/Hackettstown Medical Center. Saturday, October 31, 2020. (THE TRADITIONAL HALLOWEEN PARADE IS CANCELED THIS YEAR DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BUT A VIRTUAL HALLOWEEN PARADE WILL BE HELD)

H.P.D. K-9 Program

The Hackettstown Police K-9 Unit was founded in September of 2016.

Ptl. Christopher Laver, and his K-9 partner “Jada”, specialize in narcotics detection and search and recovery of missing/endangered people, search and apprehension of fleeing criminal suspects, and public demonstrations for community policing purposes.
